The Adult Counselling Program provides individual counselling and support to adult survivors of torture and trauma in Australia who are experiencing psychological and psychosocial difficulties believed to be associated with their experience of torture and traumatic events.
Adults from refugee backgrounds, including asylum seekers living in the community can refer themselves to QPASTT for services, or can be referred by a GP, an organisation or friend, with their consent. An intake assessment is necessary to access the program and due to the demand for services, there is usually a waiting period.
We do not have the capacity to work with acute mental health issues or crisis situations but we will co-manage with the acute mental health system. If you or somebody you know is in crisis and needs support immediately, refer to Community Mental Health Services or your local hospital.
