This 3 hour professional development opportunity will be delivered at the North Ipswich Reserve Corporate Centre in Ipswich. It will provide an understanding of the concepts of Vicarious Trauma (VT), Compassion Fatigue and Burnout. Participants will learn to identify risk factors and the warning signs in themselves and colleagues; why and how work in the area of trauma can cause these responses; ways to prevent and address Vicarious Trauma and Burnout and how to create Vicarious Growth. 
This training is appropriate for anyone who is involved in supporting people from refugee backgrounds who have experienced trauma.

Workshop facilitator:

Taryn McBurney — Child & Adolescent Counsellor / Training Coordinator

Taryn McBurney holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Social Work and is a Registered Play Therapist through the Australian Play Therapists Association. Her work in the field has predominantly been with children and young people in the disability and child protection sectors. She joined the QPASTT team as a Child & Adolescent Counsellor in the Asylum Seeker Support Team in 2015 and now has a dual role working part time as a counsellor on the Children and Youth Team and part time as a Training Coordinator for the organisation.
