This online training has been developed for teachers, volunteers and others who work with people from refugee backgrounds who are not trained as professional counsellors. It provides some basic tips and strategies to deal with disclosures of refugee related torture and trauma, and how to manage difficult behaviours in this client group.
Participants will gain an understanding of the different reactions that clients may exhibit due to trauma and the resettlement experience and how to manage their own reactions to client presentations. This is an interactive online training which includes, information, video examples and a downloadable workbook containing questions to reflect on.
This training is relevant for people working in a range of non-clinical settings such as case work, community development, bicultural support, youth work, advocacy and teaching.

Pre-requisite for all Workshops
It is a prerequisite that all participants attending our PD Training Calendar Workshops have completed the Online Introduction to the Refugee and Settlement Experience – The Impact of Trauma workshop. The content of QPASTT workshops are based on the experiences of people from refugee backgrounds and the impacts of torture and trauma, therefore it is essential that all participants have a basic understanding prior to attending other QPASTT workshops. QPASTT will have an ongoing register of who has completed the introductory online training.
If you have extensive knowledge and experience working in this field, please contact the Training Coordinators at Qpastt_Training@qpastt.org.au.
Required Documentation for Payment
For those seeking to register and pay as a student, volunteer or unwaged, QPASTT does require some evidence prior to the registration. QPASTT require a photocopy or pdf of a valid full-time student card or a letter from the manager of the organisation at which you are volunteering. Please email the Training Coordinators with your documentation at Qpastt_Training@qpastt.org.au.
QPASTT requires payment on registration. A receipt will automatically be sent when payment has been received.
QPASTT will grant refunds for cancellations received up to 14 working days prior to the day of the event. Cancellations received less than 14 working days prior to the day of the event will incur a 30% cancelation fee to cover administration costs. Refunds for cancellations received the day before or on the day of the event will not be granted. QPASTT reserves the right to cancel workshops where a minimum number of participants have not been reached. Where QPASTT has cancelled a workshop, registered participants for those workshops may transfer to another workshop or request a refund. Refunds do not apply to the online workshops.
