This one day workshop has been developed to give participants an understanding of the key theoretical frameworks and to explore our own sociocultural context and its impacts on our work with people from diverse contexts.

We will explore concept like cultural humility, mindful awareness of our responses to differences,  the refugee and settlement  context, and how these can be applied to individuals who have experienced trauma ,and communities in the process of resettlement.

This is an interactive and experiential workshop that may include, peer reflections, discussions and the sharing work and life experiences. 

This workshop is relevant for people working in a range of clinical and non-clinical settings such as counselling, case work, community development, bicultural support, youth work, advocacy and teaching.

Please note: This is not a workshop describing specific cultures and their customs, beliefs, values and mores. Rather it is aimed at providing the tools with which you can understand and bridge cultural differences.

Workshop Cost

  • $150 (plus online booking fees) for students, volunteers and unwaged.
  • $200 (plus online booking fees) for all other registrations.

Workshop Package Cost (including Online Introductory Training)

  • $170 (plus online booking fees) for students, volunteers and unwaged.
  • $220 (plus online booking fees) for all other registrations.
  • Package discount automatically applied if you choose this option

Costs include morning tea, light lunch, afternoon tea and hand outs.

IMPORTANT: It is a prerequisite that all participants attending our training workshops have completed the Online Introduction to the Refugee and Settlement Experience’ – Please select the ‘Package’ option below (under the ‘single or package‘ menu). The ‘Introduction to the Refugee Experience – The Impact of Trauma’ will be included free with two or more workshops added to the cart.

Workshop facilitators:

Erica Fernandez—Senior Practitioner/ counsellor/advocate

Erica has work as a Counsellor/ Advocate at QPASTT for the past 10 years. She has over 29 years of experience in working with people who have experienced trauma; Most of her work experience has been working across cultures. Erica has a degree in Social Science, Postgraduate studies in Counselling and Supervision and a Masters of Social Work.

Hadas Lev-Tov –Counsellor/Advocate

Hadas has work as a Counsellor/ advocate at QPASTT for the past 8 years, with all age groups. Hadas has experience in the trauma and settlement process for over 12 years. Hadas has a Bachelor degree in Special Education and Geography, a Teaching diploma and a Mater in Counselling /Psychotherapy.

Parking

The venue is located within the Dutton Park parking area and as such there is a 2 hour limit on street parking. We encourage you to use public transport if possible. We are located near Park Road train station. Please DO NOT park at the Queensland Health/ Qld Transport premises on Burke St as there is a $261.00 parking fine

Pre-requisite for Workshop

It is a prerequisite that all participants attending our workshops have completed the ‘Online Introduction to the Refugee and Settlement Experience – the impact of trauma’. If you have not previously completed this online training, please select the package option which includes this training. Please ensure you have completed this 1.5hr online training before attending the workshop

Payment

QPASTT requires payment on registration. Each workshop has a limited number of participants. Registration closes 2 days prior to the workshop. A receipt will automatically be sent when payment has been received.

Cancellations

QPASTT will grant refunds for cancellations received up to 14 working days prior to the day of the event. Cancellations received less than 14 working days prior to the day of the event will incur a 30% cancelation fee to cover administration costs. Refunds for cancellations received the day before or on the day of the event will not be granted.

QPASTT reserves the right to cancel workshops where a minimum number of participants have not been reached. Where QPASTT has cancelled a workshop, registered participants for those workshops may transfer to another workshop or request a refund. Refunds do not apply to the online workshops.

Transfer Payment to another Workshop

A registration may be transferred from one workshop to another if notice is received within 7 working days of the original workshop. Please contact the Training Coordinators via 07 3391 6677 or Qpastt_Training@qpastt.org.au to discuss transfers.
