This Queensland Mental Health Week, we are sharing stories from our staff about how they tend to their own wellbeing and what assistance QPASTT can offer for people who might need some support.
Steph Long is our Systemic Advocacy and Strategic Projects Lead, working with Third Queer Culture.
One of the things I do to look after my mental well-being is to take the time to go lie down in my garden, my happy place. It can be easy to forget to pay attention to the beauty in the world.Working at QPASTT and with Third Queer Culture has shown me a lot; despite all the hardship and discrimination people have faced in this tough world, they are some of the kindest people I have ever met. It creates hope. They have shown me how powerful and resilient people can be and helped normalise having rough patches and struggling sometimes.Asking for help can be really hard, particularly if you are unsure of how people will respond, but we all need help sometimes. It is okay to ask for help.”
QPASTT supports people of all ages who have had a refugee experience. We offer counselling, group work, community programs, and youth and family support.
